CFMoto Is Poised to Enter WSBK with an Aggressive Race-Bike Program
Public sentiment may be mixed after CFMoto appeared to charge some customers for features that were once free with the purchase of their bikes. Yet the brand dominated headlines at EICMA with its V4 SR-RR prototype, and every sign suggests this will be the platform CFMoto uses to break into the World Superbike Championship (WSBK).
CFMoto hasn’t hidden its goal of competing in WSBK, and a debut around 2027 wouldn’t be surprising. The challenge lies in scaling from the 210 HP V4 prototype shown at EICMA to a fully competitive WSBK race bike.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, there are strong indicators. CFMoto reportedly brought on a test rider with substantial pedigree: Matteo Ferrari, a competitor in Moto3, MotoE, and WSBK who will race WorldSSP for the WRP Ducati team in 2026. Ferrari has already tested the V4 SR-RR, and if these reports about a full‑time role are accurate, it signals strong momentum toward a WSBK entry.
Another telling sign is the brand’s recruitment of top-tier engineers from rival OEMs, including a move that brought a chassis specialist from Ducati. Coupled with the test rider hire, these moves point to a serious commitment to racing, with a likely target of 2027 for on-track competition.
Perhaps the most intriguing element is the V4 SR-RR’s anticipated active aero system for the road-going version. If true, it would mean the racing version could be eligible for the street too, potentially reshaping WSBK dynamics. So far, WSBK has not showcased active aero, though the Bimota BK998 Rimi is expected to debut with such technology in the 2026 season under the Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team banner (BbKRT).
