Fujian's Huang Qianqian claims her first individual foil title at China's National Games, showcasing her prowess in fencing.
HONG KONG, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Fujian's dominance in foil continued at the 15th National Games, as Huang Qianqian secured her first individual title, beating the 14-year-old talent Wang Yiran of Shanghai 15-6 on Monday. This victory came just one day after another Fujian fencer, Xu Jie, won the men's individual title. Huang, a team and individual gold medalist at the Hangzhou Asian Games, demonstrated her skill and experience, securing an automatic spot in the knockout stage as a seed athlete, while Wang progressed with a perfect record.
The final match began with Huang taking an early lead of 8-4. Despite Wang's efforts to narrow the gap to 8-6, Huang maintained her composure and sealed the game with a final score of 15-6. Another Fujian fencer, Lin Qiwen, claimed the bronze medal.
Huang expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating, 'It's my second National Games, and I kept my composure today. I told myself to stay calm, no matter if I took the lead or fell behind. It's the key to winning the game.' She also praised her opponent, Wang, for her bravery and skill, noting that it was their first meeting and that she had no special preparation, as Wang had faced right-handed opponents before the final, while Huang is left-handed.
On the same day, Yu Lefan of Anhui claimed the men's foil individual gold, beating Xiu Yuhan from Shandong. Guangdong's Huang Zhongming secured the bronze medal.
