Wood-fired pizza, handmade pasta, and spritzes are coming to Currie Street in Adelaide this winter, as Italian Street Kitchen prepares to open its doors. This highly anticipated expansion of the popular national restaurant chain feels more like a natural progression than a calculated move, according to Managing Director Gareth Howard. With a focus on local produce and a modern, accessible take on Italian dining, the new venue promises to bring a fresh energy to Adelaide's CBD dining scene.
Howard's passion for South Australia's wine regions and seafood is evident, as he highlights the incredible growth of artisan producers in the state. The new restaurant will showcase this local produce, with a wine list featuring iconic South Australian wineries like Yalumba, Jim Barry, and Rusden, as well as boutique wineries such as Emmalene, Tin Shed, and Main & Cherry. This connection to the region is a key part of the brand's personality.
The venue is housed within the character-filled Elder House, a heritage building in a busy city location. This unique setting offers a blend of heritage charm and modern accessibility, providing a great opportunity for the restaurant to become part of the city's fabric. The space is designed to transition seamlessly from a corporate lunch to a relaxed dinner or weekend session, creating a versatile and exciting dining experience.
At the heart of the menu is a fusion of Italian tradition and Australian creativity. Executive chefs Giulio and Enrico Marchese, twins who grew up in Friuli, Northern Italy, bring generations of family culinary heritage to the table. Their mother's produce store and family's long history in hospitality have influenced the recipes, which include a traditional tiramisu, a rich bolognese elevated with bone marrow pangrattato, and handmade eggplant caramelle ravioli, which has already become a signature favorite.
The restaurant will also introduce a signature cocktail, the Adelaide Spritz, crafted using local Adelaide Hills aperitifs, citrus, and botanicals. This cocktail is a celebration of the region's produce and will be a unique offering for the restaurant.
Italian Street Kitchen's opening on June 10th is highly anticipated, as it brings a fresh and exciting dining experience to Adelaide's CBD. With its focus on local produce, modern Italian cuisine, and a vibrant atmosphere, the restaurant is set to become a new favorite for food enthusiasts in the city.
