Mohanlal's Cameo in 'Haiwan': A Star-Studded Collaboration (2026)

Hold on to your hats, folks! Mohanlal, the titan of Indian cinema, is already having a monumental year, and it just got even more intriguing. Not only has he delivered a string of blockbuster hits, but he's now stepping into the world of Priyadarshan's upcoming thriller, 'Haiwan,' starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Get ready for a cinematic event!

Mohanlal's 2024 is nothing short of legendary. With three major hits—L2: Empuraan, Thudadum, and Hridayapoorvam—already under his belt, and the highly anticipated Vursshabha on the horizon, the superstar is showing no signs of slowing down. And this is the part most people miss... even with such a packed schedule, he carved out time to film a special cameo in Priyadarshan's 'Haiwan.'

But here's where it gets controversial... 'Haiwan' is being described as a reimagining, inspired by Priyadarshan's own 2016 Malayalam masterpiece, 'Oppam,' which starred Mohanlal himself. Will this new take capture the same magic, or is it too much to tamper with a classic?

The film features Saif Ali Khan as a blind man, while Akshay Kumar takes on the role of the antagonist. A teaser for Mohanlal's upcoming film 'Patriot' with Mammootty has also been released, adding even more fuel to the fire of excitement surrounding the actor.

Priyadarshan shared an image from the 'Haiwan' set, expressing his awe at working with the son of one of his cricket heroes and his 'favorite film icon' – a testament to Mohanlal's enduring influence. He wrote, "Look at life and the way it turns… Here I am, on the shooting sets of HAIWAN, working with the son of one of my biggest cricket heroes and my favourite film icon. Truly, God is kind."

Beyond the star power, 'Haiwan' marks a significant reunion. It brings Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan back together after films like 'Tashan', building on their successful collaborations in classics such as 'Tu Khiladi Main Anari,' 'Yeh Dillagi,' 'Keemat,' and 'Tu Chor Main Sipahi.' The two actors recently filmed a chase sequence in Mumbai, adding to the film's buzz.

Now, here's a twist: 'Haiwan' isn't actually Priyadarshan's official comeback to Hindi cinema. That honor belongs to 'Bhoot Bangla,' another upcoming film starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. And if everything aligns, he's also slated to begin work on 'Hera Pheri 3' with Akshay, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty sometime next year. So, the director has a whole slate of exciting projects in the works!

What do you think about Mohanlal's cameo? Does the idea of a remake of 'Oppam' excite you, or do you think some films should be left untouched? And which Akshay-Saif film is your personal favorite? Let's hear your thoughts in the comments below!
